Calculator Use

The graphing scientificand Four-function calculators are allowed or used in certain tests. (r) tests. If it is not specifically clarified that a specific calculator is permitted for a particular test however, calculators cannot be utilized.

Test-takers are not permitted to give calculators away.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless specifically stated that a particular kind of calculator is allowed or required for a specific test, calculators are not allowed to be used in every Praxis test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You may use a quadruple or scientific calculator to pass taking the Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, even though you're not required to do so. You are required to bring your own calculator to the testing center. A calculator is not provided by the center for testing. A graphing calculator isn't permitted for this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted for Praxis Praxis

  • Laptops, portable computers, or handheld computers
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on any phones watches, electronic devices
  • Models with QWERTY along with other alphabetic keys in software or hardware
  • Models that print
  • Models that make noise or "talk"
  • Designs that will require an outlet
  • Models that connect to the internet, as well as have the capability of wireless connectivity or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models that include a camera and scanner capability, or digital audio/video player recording/player capabilities

Furthermore, the use of any peripheral hardware is not allowed.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators from test takers' own calculators aren't permitted for Praxis tests which have calculators on screen.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

This set of tests in the Praxis tests use an onscreen scientific calculator. The tests utilize the TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. There is a tutorial available so you can practice using the calculator on screen prior to your test day.

These test is a Praxis tests include an on-screen graphing calculator. The tests are based on calculators such as the TI-84 Plus CE calculator. An instructional video is available so you can try out the on-screen calculator before your test day.
