Calculator Use

Graphing, scientificand four-function calculators are allowed or used in certain tests. (r) tests. Unless it is specifically specified that a calculator will be allowed for a specific test, calculators may not be used.

Test takers are not permitted to share calculators.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In generally, unless specifically stated that a specific kind of calculator is allowed or required for a particular test, calculators are not allowed to be used for all Praxis test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

It is possible to use a 4-function or scientific calculator for taking the Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, but you aren't required to do so. You are required to bring your own calculator to the test center. It is not allowed on the day of the exam. The use of a graphing calculator is not allowed for this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted to be used on Praxis examinations:

  • Laptops and portable computers
  • Electronic pads for writing
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on phones, watches or other electronic devices
  • Models equipped with QWERTY as well as other alphabetic keys in the hardware or software
  • Models with printers
  • Models that make noise , or "talk"
  • Models that require an electrical outlet
  • Models that have access to the internet via wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability
  • Models equipped with cameras capable of scanning, digital audio/video player recording/player capabilities

Furthermore, the use of any hardware peripheral is prohibited.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Test taker-supplied calculators are not allowed on Praxis exams which have calculators on screen.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

These Practice tests offer an on-screen scientific calculator. The tests make use of an TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is available so that you may practice using the calculator that is on your screen prior to your test day.

Following tests in the Praxis tests offer an on-screen graphing calculator. The tests use this TI-84 Plus CE calculator. There is a tutorial available so you can test your skills using the calculator's on-screen interface prior to your test day.
